Exploring the Area

During your stay a visit to Bay is a must! The village began as a fishing community in the 1500s. Today it is charming spot, with every twist and turn of a street bringing into view another picture postcard scene. Certainly worth the short stroll from Thorpe Hall!

Slightly further afield (and accessible by a local bus service) you can find the historic and beautiful port town of Whitby. Dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey, this traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach is a great destination for a day out.

Why not try venturing up the coast?  You might choose SandsendRunswick Bay or Staithes. . . each a little different from each other, but beautiful in their own right!

You may prefer to venture inland . . . visiting GrosmontGoathland or Pickering.  You could even take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and try them all!

Closer to home, you might fancy a woodland walk . . . the walk from May Beck to Falling Foss is nothing short of magical . . . especially with the promise of a yummy cream tea!  Of course, there are many more walks across the North York Moors National Park . . .
