Benefiting from stunning seaward views over to the cliffs of Ravenscar, Thorpe Hall is set in beautiful grounds with Thorpe Beck running along the edge. Whilst the gardens are yours to enjoy during your stay, you may also wish to take advantage of the countryside around Thorpe Hall where a maze of footpaths stretches right to the coast. Some say that there is a tunnel running from Bay to the Squire's House . . . some might call this Kings Beck . . . you choose ;-)
A path through the grounds takes you to the Cinder Track, i.e. disused railway line, that runs from Whitby to Scarborough. From here you can join the Cleveland Way or the Coast-to-Coast Walk that finishes at the beach in Robin Hood's Bay, known locally as Bay, or Baytown.
During your stay a visit to Bay is a must! The village began as a fishing community in the 1500s. Today it is charming spot, with every twist and turn of a street bringing into view another picture postcard scene. Certainly worth the short stroll from Thorpe Hall!
Looking for somewhere to eat? You will be spoiled for choice . . . all within ten to fifteen minutes . . . it simply depends upon what you fancy and your preferred mode of transport!
