Benefiting from stunning seaward views over to the cliffs of Ravenscar, Thorpe Hall is set in beautiful grounds with Thorpe Beck running along the edge. Whilst the gardens are yours to enjoy during your stay, you may also wish to take advantage of the countryside around Thorpe Hall where a maze of footpaths stretches right to the coast.
A trail from the grounds takes you to the disused railway line that runs from Whitby to Scarborough. From here you can join the Cleveland Way or the Coast-to-Coast Walk that finishes at the beach in Robin Hood's Bay, known locally as Bay, or Baytown.
If you prefer to visit one of the area's quaint villages, a visit to the Bay is a must. The village began as a fishing community in the 1500's. Today it is charming spot, with every twist and turn of a street bringing into view another picture postcard scene. Certainly worth the short stroll from Thorpe Hall!
Slightly further afield (and accessible by a local bus service) you can find the historic and beautiful port town of Whitby. Dominated by the cliff-top ruins of the beautiful 13th century Whitby Abbey, this traditional maritime town, with its old cobbled streets, picturesque houses and sandy blue flag beach is a great destination for a day out.
